Agents that understand intent, evaluate context, route to the right engine at the right cost, enforce permissions without friction, and explain their decisions. Not because a rule told them to, but because the orchestration layer made a reasoned judgment. 

That's a meaningful architectural shift. And it requires thinking about AI infrastructure the way you'd think about any other critical business system: with deliberate design, clear governance, and accountability for outcomes. 

What This Means Practically

Are those systems routing work to the right engine for the task, or defaulting to whatever is most familiar? Do you have a single layer governing data access and permissions across all of them? If the honest answer to any of those is no, you don't have an AI problem. You have an orchestration problem. And that's a solvable one, but it requires treating AI infrastructure as a strategic decision rather than a procurement one.
